Empowering Young Men Leadership & Confidence

Keynote speaker and author for boys and young men.

Welcome

In today's dynamic world, the challenges facing young men are complex. Developing strong leadership skills and unwavering confidence is not just beneficial, it's essential for their future success and well-being. As a dedicated author and speaker, I provide actionable insights and powerful tools to help young men navigate these challenges, unlock their potential, and become the confident leaders they are meant to be.

Are you ready to inspire transformative growth in the young men you serve? Explore how my keynotes and programs can equip them with the resilience, self-belief, and leadership qualities to thrive. Let's build a foundation for a brighter future, together.

About Robert

I grew up in the Norris Street Projects in North Philadelphia. There were men around me — some of them good men — but not one of them stopped long enough to look me in the eye and tell me who I was becoming. That absence didn't just shape me. It cost me.

I carried resentment toward my parents for what I didn't have, and I carried it so completely, so silently, that my own body eventually broke under the weight of it. I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease. Doctors called it inflammation. I call it something else: "Everything I refused to let go of eating me alive from the inside out."

Basketball gave me the first framework my environment never did. Not a coach standing courtside telling me who I could become just the game itself. Show up. Commit to something bigger than yourself or become a liability to everyone around you. That lesson stuck. But the court couldn't do the hardest work for me. Forgiveness isn't something you practice in a pick-up game. I had to name what I was carrying before I could set it down, and there was no one standing in front of me to show me how.

I did it anyway. I built the blueprint myself, because no one else was going to build it for me. And when I came out the other side, I made a decision that has directed every year of my professional life since: I was going to be, for young men, exactly what no one had been for me.

I founded Young Men Becoming Men, Inc. in October 2013. For more than twelve years, I've stood in front of boys in schools, gyms, and auditoriums across the country who remind me of the version of myself nobody invested in.

The work, not just the story

The G.O.A.T. Leadership Experience moves through four stages: Reflect, Refocus, Reset, Execute. I don't rush the first one. Behavior isn't a character failure it's communication. "The most common failure point is addressing behavior without addressing identity. You can tighten every accountability system in the building and still lose the boy if he doesn't believe he's worth the investment."

That framework doesn't stop at the classroom door — it's built to travel wherever boys are under pressure. I also built the G.O.A.T. Timeout an in-season intervention for athletic programs and teams, extending the same framework into competitive environments before issues reach the scoreboard.

My keynote, Redefine, is the entry point — not a motivational talk, but a mirror. Every keynote includes 60 complimentary copies of my book, The Authentic Man: Embracing Your Journey, gifted directly to the young men in attendance everything I had to figure out the hard way, so they won't have to.

Don't let your environment condition your mindset.

Keynotes & Programs

G.O.A.T. Keynote Series (Greatness Over Adversity & Trauma)

Built from Robert Cooper Jr.'s own story — raised in North Philadelphia without a father or a coach to invest in him, and finding structure through basketball instead of a mentor. Robert doesn't teach adversity from theory. He teaches it from having lived through it alone and having found his way out.

For middle school, high school, and college audiences.

  • Redefine — Who you are beyond your zip code, your trauma, and what people expect of you. Based on Chapter 6 of The Authentic Man: Embracing Your Journey — 60 complimentary copies of the book gifted to the young men in attendance

  • Greatness Over Adversity — Turning your story into your strength, not your excuse.

  • The Weight You Carry — Understanding what you're carrying without being defined or controlled by it.

  • From Surviving to Leading — Moving from getting through it to leading because of it.

G.O.A.T. Leadership Experience
A school-based mentorship program for young men in grades 6–8

Built for students who are beginning to disengage, act out, shut down, or struggle to regulate — and for the schools that want to reach them before behavior becomes the whole story. The G.O.A.T. Leadership Experience gives boys a structured, repeatable space to build identity, accountability, emotional awareness, and leadership, guided by a mentor who didn't learn this from a textbook.

Delivered in-person or virtually, in small cohorts, over a defined multi-week period — with progress measured through a pre- and post-program assessment, so schools see growth, not just attendance.

Delivered at: KIPP North Philadelphia (in-person), Pennsylvania Leadership Charter Academy (virtual, twice)

Best suited for: targeted cohorts, counseling or leadership groups, behavior support interventions, and schools building out mentoring, SEL, PBIS, or restorative practice initiatives.
